The total number of passengers that passed through the airport in the first nine months of 2017 grew to 8.611 million passengers, up from 8.336 million during the corresponding period last year.

Ali Salim Al Midfa, chairman of the Sharjah Airport Authority, said the positive results in terms of the number of passengers, volume of aircraft movement reflect the excellent position of Sharjah International Airport and the continuous efforts made by the airport, under the directives of His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, in developing services and providing the best facilities and procedures to passengers and customers to ensure a comfortable travel experience through the airport.

"We are committed to continue working with our strategic partners and looking for more growth opportunities to expand the airport capacity, keep pace with development and expansion and meet the needs of various markets through attracting more international airlines," Al Midfa added.

Sheikh Faisal bin Saoud Al Qassimi, Director of the Sharjah Airport Authority, said the growth in the number of passengers is due to the great position of the emirate of Sharjah as a strategic economic, business and tourist hub in the region, and to the excellent services provided by the airport to aircraft and the expansion in their destinations.

He added that more services and benefits will be provided to customers to ensure the airport will continue to be a leader in its field and will continue to enhance passenger loyalty and satisfaction.
