Knowledge without Borders (KwB), the Sharjah-based cultural initiative, has organised a new sporting and cultural event at Al Majaz Waterfront, a leading leisure, tourist and family destination in Sharjah.
Designed to celebrate UAE National Sports Day, the ‘Reading and Sports’ activity features two exercise machines equipped with smart device tablets that enable users to both exercise and read one of the electronic books (e-books) available from KwB’s digital library.
The launch of the KwB initiative saw the distribution of gifts as well as membership cards for the new scheme, with the cards enabling up to three users to access the same account and benefit from KwB’s digital library. The library is one of the KwB’s key projects to promote the organisation’s message, which is to spread knowledge, reading and culture far and wide.
KwB’s management says that it is important for readers of all ages to exercise their minds as well as their bodies. Meeting the passion for the digital format among young people, KwB's offerings include e-books that have been introduced to address readers' evolving needs by making the most of technology. KwB's Digital Library contains fifty books of rich content and provides flexible browsing options.
"KwB is keen to spread its message of the importance of reading by engaging in national cultural activities and events. It seeks to promote reading as a noble habit and integrate all segments of society in intellectual activities. As such, UAE National Sports Day represents a celebration of health that we were delighted to engage with. Our initiative provides for treadmill running and reading, with the former the perfect exercise for the body and the latter a great workout for the mind," said Rashid Al Kous, General Manager of KwB.
