The National Media Council is participating in the World Game Expo, being held at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre, under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs.
While participating in the event, the council reviewed its pioneering role in promoting the media sector in the country.
On the second day of the exhibition, the National Media Council organised a workshop on video game classification to set a regulatory framework and age classification for all types of electronic games that would suit all age groups.
The video game classification comes in line with the best international practices in this field and aims to provide balanced and responsible media content for different age groups. It protects children from the negative effects that they may be subjected to while using inappropriate games. The system is also a guiding indicator for parents to choose games that are suitable for their children.
The classification includes the game content in devices such as Xbox PlayStation, Wii or in personal computers and on the Internet. It provides a description of the game and its content.
