The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, OIC, expressed its strong condemnation of the launching of long-range ballistic missiles at Makkah al-Mukarramah on Thursday, 27th July, 2017, by the Houthi and Saleh militias.
Dr. Yousef Al-Othaimeen, Secretary-General of the OIC, stated that the latest assault on Makkah, after the first attempt last October, confirms the willingness of the Houthi and Saleh militias to target the holy sites of Saudi Arabia, to implement its plans against the kingdom and its citizens and residents.
He described the assault as a futile attempt to destabilise the Hajj season and an attack on all Muslims around the world, given the sacred city’s holiness as the cradle of revelation.
Al-Othaimeen added that this attack clearly reflects the lack of seriousness of the Houthi and Saleh militias, to end the conflict in Yemen through peaceful means.
He reiterated the support of the OIC for the legitimate Yemeni government, and for the efforts of the United Nations to find political solutions that will guarantee the security and stability of the country while preserving its unity and territorial integrity. He also confirmed the OIC’s support for the ongoing efforts of Saudi Arabia to bring about peace to Yemen and support its legitimate institutions, as well as the OIC’s complete solidarity with the kingdom in all its endeavours to safeguard the country’s security and stability.
