A manager has gone on trial in the Court of First Instance on the charge of sexually harassing an employee at his office.

Public prosecution records show the 29-year-old Egyptian manager abused his post as the Filipina complainant's boss by asking her to stay back after the official work timings and then got her inside his cabin after telling her that he needed to talk about work. He then touched and kissed her, by force and against her will.

The man denied the molestation charge in court, claiming that he only saw her at the time of the alleged incident for a job purpose.

The case dates back to June 2 and was reported to Al Barsha police station.

A police corporal, who interrogated the accused, said the latter claimed he saw the complainant in his office to discuss a certain problem that was going on with a customer.

"She then raised her voice telling me that it was none of my business. That irritated me and I slapped her on her face," the officer quoted the manager as saying.

The complainant told the police the manager called on her to go to his cabin. "He had asked me, earlier on that day, to stay back after office hours on the pretext that some work needed to be done; and that raised my suspicions. So, I opened the voice recorder on my mobile phone when walking into his chamber."

She added: "He talked about the business problems for some time before he moved closer to me. He asked me whether I liked him. He then kissed and touched me several times before slapping me."

Upon his arrest on June 6, the defendant confessed he saw the complainant on the incident day and slapped her.
