The Criminal Court in Sharjah began the hearing of a robbery case involving three Africans -- one of whom attacked with sword a guard of a money transport company while he was loading an ATM outlet with cash from a vehicle in Al Safeer Shopping Centre. After assaulting him, the African gang members fled the scene.
Police received a call at its operation room on December 14, 2016 informing them about the robbery.
A police team swung into action and reached the site. They found that the employee had been wounded after he resisted the attackers. The police ambulance rushed him to the hospital for treatment.
President of the Criminal Court Hussein Al Assawi confronted the three defendants. The judge said that while one of the accused tried to pull the bag of money from the employee, the other assaulted him with a sword on his hand and his shoulder to rob the money.
He also questioned the driver in the money transfer vehicle who saw the gang attacking his colleague.
While the driver confirmed the incident, the gang members denied the allegation. They contended that the area where the robbery took place had a number of people who had been caught - including nine people who were later released on charges except them. The first defendant identified as G. said that he does not know the rest of the defendants and did not have any relationship with them.
The case was deferred to the end of August for hearing the testimonies of the guard and the driver.
