Sharjah Department of eGovernment, DeG, recently unveiled the miniature model of the Sharjah Government pavilion for the 37th edition of GITEX Technology Week, the largest ICT event in the MENA region.
The Sharjah stand at the world’s third largest ICT trade show, which will be held from October 8th - 12th, 2017 at Dubai World Trade Centre, is inspired by the legacy of the Mleiha region, with the aim of promoting the historical, cultural and natural elements of the area to GITEX visitors from around the world.
Noor Ali Al Noman, Director of DeG, revealed the scale model during the second preparatory meeting at the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, in the presence of more than 100 representatives from 47 government departments in Sharjah.
The event was held to plan the participation of state entities at the Sharjah Government pavilion, which will showcase their technological services and achievements to GITEX visitors.
Sheikh Khalid bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Director-General of Sharjah DeG, explained that the Sharjah pavilion at the GITEX Technology Week was inspired by the cultural legacy and history of the emirate. He pointed out that DeG aims to showcase Sharjah’s history, culture and civilisation at the exhibition and that the pavilion’s tagline ‘History and Communication’ represents the prestigious stature of the emirate as an incubator of science, culture and civilisation.
"Sharjah’s pavilion at this year’s edition of GITEX reflects the authentic cultural history of Sharjah and is inspired by Mleiha, which is one of the most important natural tourist attractions in the region. The stand pays homage to the communication revolution, which began with conscious experiments using primitive and simple methods and has evolved over the time to become the advanced process we see today," said Al Qasimi.
"Meliha’s precious history indicates that it was a bridge to many cultures and nations and a place that nurtured the acquisition of knowledge. This is why we chose Mleiha to be the theme of our participation under the slogan ‘History and Communication.’ We believe that it highlights the blend of rich history and informational and scientific development that is exemplified by Mleiha," he added.
Speaking on the level of Sharjah government’s engagement at this year’s GITEX, Al Qasimi said, "This year we have seen a significant increase in the number of participating entities in the emirate, from 35 last year to 47. This shows the commitment of all parties to progressively transform to digital transactions with the aim of providing integrated services to customers."
