The Saud bin Rashid Al Mu’alla Foundation for Charitable and Humanitarian Works, in co-operation with the Umm Al Qaiwain Public Works and Services Department, has completed the construction of a local wastewater treatment plant, with a production capacity of 15,000 gallons per day, in Al Shas, at a total cost of around AED350,000.
Misbah Hamid, Director-General of the Umm Al Qaiwain Public Works and Services Department, stated that the plant will work according to the latest standards of treating wastewater to produce treated and pure water, which will be used in agriculture and for irrigating all types of green areas without any harmful effects to local people or animals.
He pointed out that the agriculture department in the Umm Al Qaiwain Public Works and Services Department had begun planting trees in the areas surrounding the sewage plant by using the treated water. In the second stage, the department would plant trees on the median strip of the street that leads to the Eid prayer building in the Al Salma area, he added.
Rashid Al Hamar, Director-General of Saud Bin Rashid Al Mualla Charitable and Humanitarian Est., stressed that the establishment handled the project of setting up the plant and executing all the works related to it in co-operation and co-ordination with the works department in the emirate. This was in response to the demands of the people living in the area for an end to the problem of wastewater leakage.
