The Ras Al Khaimah police have nabbed seven Asian residents involved in peddling drugs in the northern emirate.
Col Adnan Ali Al Zaabi, director of the anti-narcotics department of the RAK Police, on Tuesday said that they managed to arrest seven Asian druggies with banned narcotics with the intention of trafficking across the country.
"The anti-narcotics department was first alerted about a suspect reportedly planning to traffic among his customers, who are all Asians."
A search and tracking team was formed to verify the tip-off and closely monitor the suspect, he added. "Armed with the prosecution permission, a trap was set and the anti-narcotics team detained the suspect."
The druggie admitted, during initial interrogation, that he did have the drugs and he was planning to peddle them among his compatriots, he explained. "However, he alerted them about six other drug dealers involved in trafficking drugs."
Col Zaabi said the anti-narcotics team, armed with the prosecution permission, arrested the six suspects. "The seven drug dealers were referred to the RAK public Prosecution for legal action."
Warning, Col Zaabi said studies show that people of ages 14-20 are not well aware of the consequences of addiction to drugs, of which some are affordable and easily accessible.
Parents are urged to keep an eye on their children and protect them against narcotics. "It is not only the responsibility of law enforcement bodies to curb drugs; it is rather of all members of the society."
The anti-narcotic department of the RAK Police had earlier detained two Asian residents involved in peddling some 10,000 narcotic tramadol pills with the intention of trafficking across the country.
Two drug dealers were also busted with 7,460 narcotic Tramadol tablets, worth some Dh 75,000. Few days back, the RAK police also nabbed two Asian drug dealers involved in peddling heroin in the emirate.
