The State of Qatar is taking part in the 13th Meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Basel Convention, the 8th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Rotterdam Convention (RC COP-8) and the 8th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Stockholm Convention (SC COP-8).
HE Qatar's Permanent Representative to the UN Office in Geneva and other International Organizations in Switzerland Ali Khalfan Al Mansouri is chairing Qatar's delegation to the meetings, currently taking place in Doha till May 5.
The triennial meetings aim to achieve synergy, coordination and complementarity between the three conventions on hazardous chemicals, and will include ad hoc sessions of conferences of the conventions to follow up on their respective issues related to their commitments, mechanisms of work and the objectives they seek to achieve.
The Ministry of Municipality and Environment said in a statement that it is implementing the strategic plan for the management of chemicals and hazardous wastes in cooperation with the UN Environment Program through the technical support provided by the three conventions, in order to achieve a balance between the protection of the environment and the growing economic and industrial development at the national level.
The Ministry added that its plan in this regard is consistent with the 2030 World Sustainable Development Goals, and Qatar National Vision 2030 which aims at transforming Qatar into a developed country capable of achieving sustainable development and ensuring a decent life for future generations.
