Noura Al Suwaidi, Director of the General Women’s Union, GWU, today stressed that the memory of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan has made an obvious impact in the field of international humanitarian action, as he promoted values that became the obvious characteristics of the UAE’s journey and its generous people.
In her statement marking Zayed Humanitarian Day on the 19th Ramadan, she added that the wise leadership has made humanitarian giving a priority, based on Sheikh Zayed's belief in the necessity of helping needy and vulnerable individuals and his conviction that giving is a universal commitment and duty, not just for charities and grants.
She added that the methodology established by Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan is being implemented by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.
Highlighting the late leader's role in supporting women's empowerment, Al Suwaidi said that Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan supported UAE women from the beginning, emphasising the fact that Emirati women have achieved considerable developments in both his era and after his death.
"He directed the nation to give their attention to humanitarian and charity programmes and deliver aid to vulnerable people around the world," the GWU Director added.
The UAE's wise leadership continues to promote various giving initiatives within and outside of the UAE, she said, highlighting the UAE's marriage fund that provides grants to assist soon-to-be married Emiratis, as well as a social welfare fund providing thousands of individual cases with monthly assistance.
On an international level, Al Suwaidi said that the UAE has established a number of humanitarian aid and development projects across many countries, dispatching charity and humanitarian assistance to vulnerable peoples.
