Jordan, in cooperation with the Palestinian government, is exerting efforts to restore calm at the Al-Aqsa Mosque/Haram Al Sharif and cancel the unilateral measures taken by the Israeli occupation forces, Minister of Foreign and Expatriate Affairs Ayman Safadi said Thursday.
Addressing reporters at the end of the emergency meeting of the Arab foreign ministers in Cairo, Safadi urged the Israeli prime minister to refrain from politicization the issue for populism through arrogance and measures taken at the expense of others. Such measures would slide the region into a new disaster, the minister said, urging Israel to shoulder its responsibility as the occupation power in Jerusalem.
Safadi also urged the international community to shoulder its responsibility to prevent the eruption of new crises in the region. Security, he affirmed, cannot be achieved without guaranteeing the rights of and respecting the holy places of Palestinian people.
“Escalation and manipulating the holy places are not only provocative actions against all Muslims, but also slides the region into a new wave of violence. Jordan will continue its efforts to deescalate the situation because it wants peace and security in the region,” Safadi told reporters.
The minister also noted the intensive communications and contacts with the international community and other Arab countries, which obliged Israel to take this action, imposed by the steadfastness of the Palestinian people.
