Sharjah Police warned that motorists who misuse mosque parking spaces would be slapped a fine of Dh500 and get four black points.
Major Abdul Rahman Khater, Director of Traffic Awareness Department of Sharjah Police, said drivers who stop their cars in the middle of the road without reason will be fined Dh500 and four black points as per Article 41 of the Traffic Act. They will also be fined Dh200 as per Article 67 of the Traffic Act relating to blocking movement of vehicles.
Major Khater pointed out that the improper parking of vehicles near mosques during taraweeh prayers causes disruption of traffic and creating congestion. It also hinders timely arrival of ambulances and fire trucks at site of accidents or fires, which could result in loss of lives and property.
Sharjah Police has intensified its campaign to raise awareness of the public about the dangers of improper parking of vehicles in front of mosques during prayers and distributed publication in all languages to the public.
He urged the drivers to park their vehicles at designated parking areas, abide by traffic regulations, and take into account the rights of others who use the roads.
