Malls in the capital city of Trinidad and Tobago were evacuated after a bomb threat on Thursday, while no evidence of a bomb was found after police searches.
Managers at the Trincity Mall near the Piarco International Airport, located 30 kms east of the capital city, received a call regarding a bomb threat around midday, according to the local media CNC3.
The mall was evacuated following the threat. However, after a two-hour search no evidence of a bomb was found. Police said the source of the threat has not been identified.
Other malls in Port of Spain were also closed as a precautionary measure after the incident.
Earlier this week, a recording spread on the social media warning of a plot to bomb several malls in Trinidad "sometime from Thursday to Sunday, in some malls."
According to a press release on Tuesday, Edmund Dillon, Minister of National Security, called on all citizens "not to be guided by rumors and remain calm and vigilant and report any suspicious activity."
He said the country's intelligence agencies are working to authenticate the origin of such threats and wish to assure citizens of their safety and security.
