King Abdullah II of Jordan on Sunday welcomed a delegation of the US House Foreign Affairs Committee, led by Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, and discussed further boosting the US-Jordanian partnership and cooperation ties as well as current region developments.
According to the Petra News Agency, the discussion during the meeting dealt with challenges posed by regional crises to the Jordanian economy, particularly the Syrian refugee crisis. King Abdullah said he appreciated US economic aid, which enabled the Kingdom to face such burdens and carry out developmental programmes.
The Middle East peace process also figured high on the discussion, with the King emphasising the need for intensive efforts to kick-start serious and effective negotiations between the Palestinians and Israelis based on the two-state solution and the Arab peace initiative.
The meeting also dealt with efforts to reach a political solution in Syria through the Geneva negotiating track, and regional and international efforts to fight terrorism.
