Germany attaches importance to Egypt's role in consolidating security and stability in the region, Egypt’s Ambassador in Berlin Badr Abdel Aati said Monday.
The diplomat made the comments at the end of Egyptian Interior Minister Magdy Abdel Ghaffar's visit to Germany, where a security cooperation agreement was signed.
The visit came as a response to that made by the German interior minister to Egypt in March, in which he met with President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, Abdel Aaty said in statements to MENA.
He described the cooperation deal as "unprecedented" in the history of cooperation between the two interior ministries.
The Egyptian minister and his German counterpart Thomas de Maiziere signed the agreement at the German Interior Ministry, he pointed out.
The agreement covers several fields of cooperation including counter-terrorism, security training, capability building and exchange of information, he added.
