Acting Lower House Speaker Khamis Attiyeh said that Jordan, on behalf of the international community, hosts more that 1.3 million Syrian refugees.
At a meeting with friends of Jordan group at the European Parliament, Attiyeh said that the refugees are placing an increasing pressure on Jordan at the economic, social, political and security levels. He urged the international community to shoulder its responsibilities towards the refugees and provide support to Jordan to enable it to continue its role towards the refugees.
He also briefed the delegation about Jordan’s comprehensive reform process led by His Majesty King Abdullah II.
The meeting also focused on the Palestinian refugees, regional crises as well as the war on terrorism.
The delegation stressed the need to achieve just peace in the region and voiced support to the two-solution.
They also praised Jordan’s role towards the refugees and pledged the European Parliament’s continued support to Jordan in this regard.
