Saudi King Salman selected Islamic Personality of the Year in Dubai

The organising committee of the Dubai International Holy Quran Award has selected Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz of Saudi Arabia as Islamic Personality of the year.

The organising committee of the Award made the announcement late on Friday night ahead of the start of the 21st competition for the Holy Quran.
 
Ibrahim Bu Melha, Head of the Dubai International Holy Quran Award, said that the prestigious award is in appreciation to his great services for Islam and Muslims around the globe.
 
"This is a well-deserved honour as King Salman has spared no effort in serving the visitors of the Two Holy Mosques, easing the rituals of Haj and Umrah for pilgrims".

The Dh1 million award is annually presented to an individual or entity in appreciation to their effort in serving the Holy Quran.

Earlier in 2016, a 96-year-old Emirati scholar was awarded the Dh1 million Islamic personality of the year award.

Sheikh Mohammed Ali bin Al Sheikh Abdurrahman Sultan Al Ulama was selected out of a long list of nominees.

"The decision is in appreciation of Sheikh Al Ulama's tireless efforts in serving Islam and the Holy Quran; and his 70 valuable Islamic books and over 200 major charity projects," said Ibrahim Bu Melha, Head of the Dubai International Holy Quran Award.
