The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, has arrived in New York to take part in the activities of the 72nd Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 72).
UNGA debates are to tackle the most important international issues of impact on world states’ present and future including global war on terrorism, sustainable development and the situation in the Middle East.
The minister said the Kingdom of Bahrain’s participation in GA meetings stems from its firm belief in the importance of reactivation of international joint action and collective work to seek political solutions to the various regional and global crises.
It is also out of keenness to partake in constructive discussions of the economic, developmental and social causes of interest to the world as the UN General Assembly remains the most suitable global organization to tackle such significant issues and a platform from where solutions could be reached to meet our expectations and ambitions, he added.
“The Kingdom of Bahrain is always keen on efficiently participating in UN various activities in line with its constant policy, based on extending cooperation bridges with international organizations and given the Kingdom’s constructive role in preserving world peace and security.
Shaikh Khalid expressed hope that the UNGA in its 72nd version would pave the way for a safer and more secure world and hence meet the states and peoples’ aspirations for more development, peace and prosperity.
Earlier, UNGA 72 President, Miroslav Lajčák, has opened the session under the theme of “focusing on People: Striving for Peace and a Decent Life for all on a Sustainable Planet.”
