Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, DEWA, has signed up as a volunteer on the UAE national volunteer platform, www.volunteers.ae.
The platform was launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, as part of the Year of Giving initiative.
Al Tayer signed up on the platform in the presence of vice presidents and executive vice presidents of DEWA, and Mohamed Abdul Hamid Al Hosani, Director of Leadership and Empowerment at the Emirates Foundation. He also urged DEWA’s staff and members of society to sign up on the platform, which was developed by the Emirates Foundation, in collaboration with the Ministry of Community Development.
The platform consolidates a culture of volunteering and social responsibility in the UAE and seeks to create an integrated and sustainable system for volunteering in the UAE. It covers 14 areas from which volunteers can choose the ones closest to their interests.
Speaking about the platform, Al Tayer said, "The UAE’s humanitarian efforts have made it one of the most philanthropic countries in the world. I am honoured to sign up on the national volunteering platform, which is a pioneering initiative that symbolises the principles of charity in the UAE. These principles stem from the teachings of Islam and authentic Arab traditions.
"The platform reflects Emirati values and the culture of good that is inherent in the people of the UAE. It also reflects the strategy of our wise leadership to promote the principles of cohesion, altruism, and philanthropy to be a way of life for everyone in society. It also consolidates volunteering as one of the key results of the Year of Giving, according to an institutional framework and an integrated system," he added.
"I urge all DEWA staff and members of society to sign up on the UAE Volunteer Platform. This will help them achieve happiness. As His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum once observed the fastest way to happiness is by instilling happiness in the hearts of others," he concluded.
Maytha Al Habsi, Deputy CEO of Emirates Foundation, said, "We are pleased to have DEWA as a registered organisation on the UAE Volunteer Platform. DEWA is an organisation that believes in the importance of volunteering for the development of society. Its participation promotes the values of social responsibility and giving in serving society. The platform aims to improve volunteer work and create a sense of responsibility among institutions and individuals towards society in general. It is the national umbrella and the government platform for volunteer work in the UAE, which gives all citizens and residents the opportunity to return the favour to this generous country."
