Manama - Fana News

The Arabian Gulf University (AGU) has honoured about 40 nurses working at the Haematology Centre at Salmaniya Medical Complex for their sincere efforts in the clinical research project adopted by AGU to find alternative treatments for sickle cell anaemia patients. The project has witnessed marked progress thanks to the cooperation of the nurses at the Ministry of Health.

The President of AGU, Dr Khalid bin Abdul Rahman Al-Ohaly, praised the cooperation of the Ministry of Health in the success of the project, which aims to develop alternative treatments for sickle cell patients, in accordance with ethical standards and international requirements to protect the health of volunteer patients. He praised the close ties linking AGU to the Ministry of Health, based on a complementary partnership to improve the quality of health services and provide advanced treatment for the people of Bahrain and GCC countries.

Dr Rajaa Al-Youssef, Deputy Medical Chief and Chairman of the Board of the Haematology Centre at the Salmaniya Medical Complex, expressed her appreciation of AGU’s efforts to integrate research into treatment services aimed at alleviating the suffering of sickle cell patients during bouts of illness. Dr Al-Youssef urged all workers in this research project to exert more efforts to ensure the success of current and future clinical research projects.
Director of the Clinical Research Centre at AGU, Dr Adel Mazkour, praised the aptitude of the sickle cell research team in proceeding with the project including the nurses, who were an integral part of the development of the project and the success of the preliminary results.

He added, “They have made great efforts in following up with the patients and taking the samples needed for the study. These honours were an opportunity for us to strengthen our partnership with the Ministry of Health by finding alternative solutions for patients to reduce their suffering and shorten their recuperation period in the hospital.” He also stressed the importance of continuing practical research, clinical trials and medical innovations, especially with this project, which is part of the university’s strategic role in addressing health issues in GCC countries
