British Council Bahrain organised its annual Study UK Exhibition 2017
Manama - Fana News

British Council Bahrain organised its annual Study UK Exhibition 2017 on Wednesday and Thursday, 1-2 November 2017 at the University of Bahrain. The exhibition gives prospective students for undergraduate and graduate programmes the opportunity to meet representatives from UK universities, colleges and educational institutions.
Organised annually by the British Council, this education exhibition attracted over 1000 visitors to meet representatives from up to 20 UK universities and institutions. The exhibition was opened by Her Majesty’s Ambassador His Excellency, Mr Simon Martin; UK Ambassador to the Kingdom of Bahrain. The opening was attended by key figures from education and business sectors, including Dr Muna Al Balooshi, Assistant Secretary General for Accreditation and Evaluation at the Higher Education Council, Prof. Riyad Yousef Hamzah, President of the University of Bahrain, Dr. Roy Blatchford from the office of the First Deputy Prime Minister and Khalid Al Zayani, Chairman of the BBBF.

The Study UK Exhibition is part of British Council’s initiative to enhance cultural and educational relations between Bahrain and the UK by helping create a knowledge-based economy. Prospective students from across Bahrain attend the exhibition to obtain information about education opportunities, admission, available programmes and scholarships directly from the universities’ representatives.

Mr Simon Martin, UK Ambassador to the Kingdom of Bahrain, stated on the occasion: “I am delighted to see the large number of British Universities representing the UK Higher Education sector at this year’s Study UK Exhibition, and proud that the UK is home to a growing number of Bahraini students during their tertiary education. It is inspiring to witness the enthusiasm and ambition of young Bahrainis looking to pursue their university studies in the UK, highlighting the importance of education in the relationship between our two countries”.

Professor Riyad Hamzah, President of the University of Bahrain, stated: “University of Bahrain is delighted to extend its partnership with the British Council to host the Bahrain-UK Education Week. Not only have students benefited from learning more about science and technology but also about studying opportunities at many UK universities”.

Prof. Hamzah said that such activities and partnerships are fruitful; the previous Science Collaboration Symposium which was organized by the British Council and held at the university last year led to more than 10 BH-UK universities proposals.
Prof. Hamza stressed that the university works with several UK universities and the Education Week also gives the opportunity for further dialogue and partnership opportunities. He also stated that internationalization is a key part of the university transformation plan.

In light of the occasion, British Council Director Mr. Richard Rooze stated: “We are very pleased to welcome this delegation of British higher education institutions to Bahrain to showcase the programmes they offer. Bahraini students and their parents have the opportunity to explore UK higher education and to get first-hand answers to any questions they may have about studying there via the exhibition.”

The Study UK Exhibition provides students with the chance to learn more about UK education opportunities and courses and the extensive choices being offered for degree programmes at every level or even English language and vocational skills, in addition to information about institutions, entry requirements, visas and travel. As well as a dedicated Bahrain UK Alumni corner where students could ask alumni about their experience first-hand.

British Council plays an important role in providing opportunities for both Middle East and UK institutions to meet potential partners for mutually beneficial collaborations in transnational education and research.
