No need to carry a book if you want to spend time outdoors by reading a book in a park in Dubai. You can borrow books for free at the parks in Dubai.
On Tuesday, the Dubai Municipality launched Park Libraries initiative to instill the culture of reading among the community members, especially the youth.
The first of its kind library, powered by solar energy, was opened at Al Garhoud Park to motivate the public to read as they spend time at the parks.
Hussain Nasser Lootah, director-general of the Dubai Municipality, said: "The books will be available for free enabling the visitors to borrow books directly for reading. They should be returned to their place in the library to enable others to benefit from them."
He added that the library is equipped with about 70 knowledge sources, in both Arabic and English, to make it easier for the public to learn about the heritage, history, information, values and traditions of the country.
"In addition, special attention has been taken to provide children and adolescent literature in order to enhance reading habits among them, with a focus on stories of educational awareness."
He added that this initiative also aims to bring writers closer to the community and contribute to the entertainment of park visitors.
A number of libraries will be opened across the parks in Dubai, as the parks have been attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors during all seasons of the year. "
A wide selection of titles and publications in all fields of knowledge such as culture, science, history and literature will be available at these libraries.
The book shelves have been designed in the shape of the word "Read" in both Arabic and English to attract visitors.
