Israel has reversed all its recent unilateral actions and removed all e-gates and cameras installed at Al-Aqsa Mosque gates over the past two weeks, Minister of Foreign and Expatriate Affairs Ayman Safadi said on Thursday.
Israel’s reversal of its actions was imposed by the firm stance and the historical steadfastness of the Palestinian people, the minister said in a speech at the Arab Foreign Ministers’ extraordinary meeting, which was called for by Jordan. The meeting aimed at discussing the latest developments in the Al-Aqsa Mosque/Haram Al Sharif.
The Israeli action was the result of relentless efforts and communications made by His Majesty King Abdullah II and the Palestinian National Authority as well as efforts of the Arab countries, Safadi told the meeting.
“Today, we have come over a crisis that could result in disastrous repercussions. Any attempt to impose changes in the situation in Al-Aqsa mosque provokes the feelings of hundreds of millions of Muslims across the world,” the minister said.
This crisis, he added, reminded the whole world that there will be no security and stability in the Middle East without finding a just solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. Any peaceful resolution will only be made through the two-state solution, which guarantees the establishment of a viable and independent Palestinian state on the 4th of July, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital living side-by-side with Israel.
Achieving peace and stability, the minister said, requires addressing all reasons that stand behind the deprivation of the peoples of the Middle East. Meanwhile, Safadi noted the efforts exerted by the U.S. to end the crisis. He also praised the commitment of U.S. President Donald Trump to working to end the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
“The Israeli prime minister must realize that arrogance, absurdity, violation of the law and falsification of facts in the pursuit of populism will only contribute to increasing tension and aggravating the atmosphere,” Safadi said.
Jordan, he affirmed, will continue to exert its utmost to realize the rights of Palestinians. Preserving Al-Aqsa Mosque/Haram Al Sharif will also remain a top priority of His Majesty King Abdullah as the custodian of holy places in Jerusalem.
