Israeli occupation forces lead by police chief Yuram Levi, on Thursday banned Palestinian worshipers from entering al-Aqsa mosque, a Palestinian official said.
The Director of the Islamic Waqf (Religious Endowment) and Al-Aqsa Affairs in Jerusalem, Azzam al-Khatib, told Petra’s reporter in Ramallah that before it completely closed Muslims’ holy shrine, the Israeli police confiscated the IDs of Palestinians worshippers, preventing those who are under the age of 40 from entering their holy site.
The Israeli police stormed the Muslim’s compound, toured the mosque with a group of Jewish extremists marking the anniversary of the death of a settler that was killed last year in Hebron, al-Khatib added .
Israel’s Minister of Agriculture Uri Ariel, an extreme right winger, has called on Jewish extremists to break into the mosque in large numbers .
A state of tension is still prevailing in the area, as groups of extremist settlers continue storming the Muslims compound under the protection of the Israeli army.
