SHARJAH - Emirates Voice

An Asian motorist was referred to the Traffic Prosecution after his traffic fines exceeded over Dhs1million.
The motorist has committed 132 traffic violations
According to Major Mohamed Abdel Rahman Bin Qasmol, Deputy Director of Al Wasit Police Station, the motorist was referred to the Sharjah Traffic Prosecution as he committed traffic violations resulting in a huge fine of   Dhs1,193,000.
“The violating motorist was tracked by Sharjah Police while patrolling in the streets. The errant motorist was spotted driving in a reckless manner and committing more traffic violations.
“The motorist had failed to pay all the accumulated fines with some violations issued on the car licence amounting to Dhs214,000 and another Dhs730,000 registered on the driving licence.”
Major Bin Qasmol said that the motorist also violated laws as he was illegally using the car to ferry passengers, making the total cost of violations reach around Dhs1 million, notice for which was issued by Sharjah’s Roads and Transport Authority
The fine for illegal car pooling is Dhs5,000 and in case the motorist repeats the same violation,  he will be slapped with a fine of Dhs10,000. This will be registered on the car licence in addition to the various traffic violations the motorist had committed, such as overspeeding, parking in prohibited areas, and failure to stick to a single road lane. The motorist had also committed violations in other emirates.
According to the amended traffic law, Article Number 75 states that a car illegally used to transport commuters is subject to a Dhs 3000 fine in addition to four black points added to the driver’s licence. Article Number 76 states that a motorist found illegally transporting passengers will be fined Dhs3,000 along with 24 black points.
The car will be confiscated for one month and the motorist’s driving licence will be suspended for the same period.
Motorists are urged to strictly abide by traffic laws and they should not illegally transport passengers, as it is an offence.
“Cars should be used to serve the purpose of transporting people safely and not a way of committing fatal violations of rules. Motorists  must respect the laws to avoid hefty penalties," the official explained.
