At least 234 people were hospitalized in Tripoli, Libya, for fireworks-related injuries during celebrations for the Mawlid holiday, officials said. Most of those injured were children and young people who sustained burns, the Libya Herald reported. At least 35 youths sustained serious injuries, including a 9-year-old boy who lost an eye. Other injuries were caused by people throwing fireworks at passersby. Fireworks also caused damage to at least six cars and started fires in a number of buildings, the newspaper said. A bakery burned down in Salaheddin. Celebrations for Mawlid, or the Prophet's Birthday, are expected to peak Monday night, the Herald said.
