Nicole Kidman is set to replace Rachel Weisz in the true to life drama The Railway Man. She’s going to act as the wife of a World War II officer played by Colin Firth. Now, if you’re wondering why she got the role from Rachel, there’s nothing melodramatic as a reason there. Rachel is just swamped with her own projects, she’s still filming “The Bourne Legacy” and “Oz: The Great and Powerful.” Nic was supposedly persuaded by Colin and the movie’s producer Andy Paterson to take on the role. The movie is a true story about Eric Lomax, a second lieutenant in the Royal Corps of Signals, who got captured by Japanese soldiers during World War II. He was so traumatized by the torture and other terrible experiences while a prisoner that he carried the scars even after the war. Patti, his wife, played a big role in helping him come to terms with it as well as being an instrument in his reconciliation with one of his captors’ years later. The Railway Man is due to start filming in Scotland then Australia for the WWII scenes.
