Lisa Edelstein will return to television on new Bravo series Girlfriends' Guide to Divorce.
The 48-year-old actress will portray Abby McCarthy, and detailed the role in an interview with the New York Post. Abby is a self-help guru who goes into free fall after separating from her husband, and Edelstein could relate to the character even though she herself is happily married.
"In a funny way, you're in the same subject matter," she said. "Even though it's a show about divorce, it's a show about relationships. It's a show about what makes a relationship live or die, and those are all the things that are on your mind when you get married."
"A lot of what [Abby] goes through are things I've personally experienced in my 20s and early 30s," she related. "A lot of the mistakes are the same. Having lived through the process of mediation and becoming a step-parent, of co-parenting with someone's ex-partner and how complicated that can be -- it's a lot of hard work and it's not simple."
Girlfriends' Guide to Divorce is based on Vicki Iovine's Girlfriends' Guide series of books. The program is the first original scripted series for Bravo, and co-stars Paul Adelstein as Abby's husband Jake, Alanna Ubach as Abby's best friend Jo, Janeane Garofalo as Abby's friend Lyla, Beau Garrett as Phoebe and Necar Zadegan as Delia.
Edelstein is best known for portraying Dr. Lisa Cuddy on Fox medical drama House. She has since appeared as Celeste Serrano on The Good Wife, Sarah Stanner on Scandal and Rachel McCord on Castle. The actress married artist Robert Russell in May.
Girlfriends' Guide to Divorce premieres Tuesday at 10 p.m. ET on Bravo.
