The EU Commission urged Italy on Tuesday to take immediate measures to remedy what it called \'\'\'\' rooted structural weakness\'\'\'\' in its economy. The call came on the heels of a decision by Standards and Poors to downgrade Italy\'\'s credit rating. A spokesman for the EU Commission for economic affairs underlined the need for continued implementation by Rome of a plan to cut down debt, and for advancing economic growth.
