Business opportunities for Tunisian companies on the Canadian market were presented at a workshop held on Thursday in Tunis, by the "Classe Export Tunisie" Group and French "SALVEO" Group specialised in development of small and medium enterprises internationally. The meeting aims to present Tunisian products likely to be exported to some 34 million Canadian consumers, and look at ways to export to this market and identify Canadian partners. Tunisia is the 68th customer in this market and its 91st supplier. Introducing the Canadian market, Mr. Johann Sponar, CEO of SALVEO, said that Canada is the 10th largest foreign investor in value and the second biggest investor in the oil and gas sectors. Canadian exports have increased by 110% since 2007, he went one saying. Tunisia is the 8th largest export market of Canada, particularly in cereals, but also machinery and textiles...and its 12th supplier in Africa, he added. Tunisian exports to the Canadian market are basically textile and clothing, oil, footwear, fruit, cables, electrical equipments. The official noted that trade relations between Tunisia and Canada have developed during the last years, with trade exchanges between the two countries reaching 160 million dollars in 2009.
