Stocks fell in early Tokyo trading Monday after the report of the Bank of Japan's quarterly business sentiment survey for September came out. At 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average moved down 47. 08 points, or 0.53 percent, at 8,823.08. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange dropped 5. 81 points, or 0.79 percent, to 731.61. The central bank said shortly before the market opened that the diffusion index for large manufacturers in September was minus 3, down from June's minus 1.
