Nikkei closed lower on Friday in Tokyo on the weak export affected by the strong yen. The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average closed down 79.71 points, or 0.89 percent, at 8,870.16. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange lost 8.17 points, or 1.10 percent, to 737.42. The losers included sea transport firms, transport equipment makers and brokerages, the gainers are oil distributors, food makers and steel makers. The turnover was about 1,119.8 billion yen (about 14.45 billion U.S. dollars).
