Samsung Electronics Co., the world\'s largest memory chipmaker, may spend over 10 trillion won (US$9.3 billion) on research and development (R&D) this year as part of efforts to enhance its global competitiveness, sources said Tuesday. In the first half, the company\'s R&D expenditures totaled 4.98 trillion won, or 6.5 percent of its sales, with spending expected to increase in the coming months.
