The Food Export Council (FEC)’s exports in 2016 reached USD 2.7 billion compared to USD 2.6 billion in 2015, Heba Soheil, the official responsible for exhibitions at the FEC revealed on Thursday.
Speaking on the sidelines of her participation at the 50th session of Cairo International Fair (CIF), which runs from March 15-24, Soheil said food industries’ sector could achieve a great leap in Egypt because of the country's suitable climate conditions and the availability of livestock, in addition to the presence of several means of transportation and ports, that can be used in exporting and importing raw materials.
The exports of food industries’ sector in 2016 represented 13% of the country’s non-oil exports that stood at USD 20 billion, Soheil added, while the total investments of the sector hit about EGP 98.5 billion.
