The world's biggest container ship paid 6.2 million pounds as a toll fees for passing through the Suez Canal, said a well-placed shipping source at Suez Canal Authority.
The container ship, carrying about 196,000 tons of cargo on board, crossed the Suez Canal yesterday, added the source, noting that the vessel came from Spain en route to Malaysia.
The waterway which connects the Mediterranean and Red Sea is one of the country's main sources of foreign currency reserves, along with tourism and remittances from Egyptian expatriates.
