Egypt's Suez Canal set a record within the past three days in the number of vessels and the cargo passing through it, the Suez Canal Authority Chairman said.
In a press release Sunday, Mohab Memish said that 140 vessels, carrying over 8 million tons of cargo, transited the Suez Canal from both directions.
The waterway which connects the Mediterranean and Red Sea is one of the country's main sources of foreign currency reserves, along with tourism and remittances from Egyptian expatriates.
