The Suez Canal hit a record in daily revenue Thursday with 16.3 million dollars, or about 100 million pounds, said head of the Suez Canal Authority (SCA) Mohab Mamish. About 303 million tons of cargo and a total of 46 ships passed through the canal, Mamish said, adding that it was one of the highest amounts of cargo in one day for this year. The passage is a vital source of foreign currency for the country, along with tourism, oil and gas exports and remittances from Egyptians living abroad.
