The Supreme Council for Environment (SCE) participated in the World Green Economy Summit (WGES).
The Summit held in Dubai on October 24 – 25 under the patronage of His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President ,Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. It was organised by the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority with the World Green Economy Organization, in cooperation with Dubai Supreme Council of Energy and the Water, Energy, Technology and Environment Exhibition (WETEX). The WGES is one of the leading global forums on advancing the global green economy and sustainability agenda, bringing together world-class experts from around the world.
Chief Executive of the SCE, Dr. Mohamed Mubarak bin Daina participated as a panelist for the closing plenary, “From Paris to Bonn: global aspirations at a time of political uncertainty”.
The panel was moderated by Nicki Shields from CNN, where Dr. bin Daina shared the panel with Aziz Rabbah, Minister of Energy, Mines and Sustainable Development in Morocco, Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, CEO and Managing Director of Dubai Electricity & Water Authority and Adnan Z. Amin, Director-General of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA).
Dr. Bin Daina discussed the significance of the Paris Agreement to the world and shared his perspectives on achieving its aspirations, with particular emphasis on Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), Bahrain’s role as a Small Island Developing State (SIDS) and increasing global ambition through the Facilitative Dialogue and the Global Stocktake.
Dr. bin Daina had a meeting with Director-General of the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), Dr. Frank Rijsberman on Bahrain’s future climate change strategy, action on the Green Climate Fund projects and innovation in solar desalination.
The SCE also participated in a roundtable discussion organized by GGGI on Food Security and Climate Change Adaptation, where SCE representatives shared their views on scaling up action to prioritize adaptation needs for Bahrain.
