Kuwait - KUNA
The National Assembly approved on Wednesday a parliamentary request to issue a recommendation from the Assembly to the government asking the latter to follow up the case of "returning stolen public funds from the accounts of the former director of the Public Institution for Social Security." This request is being made after a Swiss court ruling offering assistance to Kuwaiti judicial authorities and the public prosecution to reveal the contents of the accounts of the former director.
Minister of Justice, Awqaf, and Islamic Affairs Yaqoub Al-Sanea assured the National Assembly that he would take all required legal measures, with the assistance of Minister of Finance Anas Al-Saleh, in dealing with the former director's case, in such a way that would not conflict with ongoing investigation into the case.
Stressing that the case is under legal investigation, the Justice minister said "in the event that the government senses that legal action can be taken, separate and apart from the investigation by the public prosecutor's office, then the government will go with that and exercise its role in protecting public funds." He applauded the efforts of the National Assembly regarding this case. A number of MPs had requested the formation of an investigatory committee to look into the case of financial irregularities at the Public Institution for Social Security."
