Kuwaiti MPs

The National Assembly recommended on Thursday that the government's decision to lift the subsidies from the prices of diesel and kerosene be withdrawn.
The issue of the subsidies of diesel and kerosene was discussed by the MPs for two hours today, ending in a set of recommendations that the decision for lifting the subsidies be revoked, prices of commodities be monitored by the ministry of commerce and by the union of cooperatives.
Other recommendations dealt with enacting new legislations curbing businesses from price-gouging the public and an appeal to the government to continue subsidizing the prices of diesel and kerosene which have caused many bakers to stop working on account of the spike in fuel prices.
The MPs furthermore urged that the law be applied to those who deal in smuggling diesel and kerosene fuels outside the country, stressing that this crime could not be tolerated any longer.
They also condoned steps toward studying carefully the aftermath of the lifting of the subsidies, while urging the ministry of commerce and the department of consumer protection to keep a sharp eye on any fabrications of prices of people's daily staples of food.
