Kuwait - KUNA
The National Assembly has given the thumbs up to a revised piece of legislation creating a public authority for roads and land transport in the first deliberation.
The responsibility of supervising and controlling the public transport movement in the country, including roads and utilities, should rest with a competent authority, according to an explanatory memorandum.
The authority's board of directors should consist of 11 members, including representatives from the ministries of public works, electricity and water, communications, Kuwait Municipality and General Department of Traffic, according to the revised bill.
Also other qualified scientific and technical members from the private sector are to be handpicked as board members.
