The Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation has delivered emergency relief assistance to 3000 families, including refugee families, in the towns of Jiyeh, Barja, Siblin, Bassir and Ketermaya to help them survive a harsh winter as the Levant region and Iraq were recently hit by a fierce snowstorm.
An official source from the Foundation, said the humanitarian aid team has managed to transport food items, blankets, pillows, mattresses, warm clothing, heating stoves and diesel and winter shoes to the refugees in the five towns where heavy snow blocked the roads in the past two days.
The official said that the Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, in cooperation with the UAE Embassy in Beirut, is carrying out the humanitarian effort in Lebanon in accordance with directives from President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan to provide emergency assistance to refugees and people affected by the blizzard in the region.
The humanitarian effort is being followed up by Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
The beneficiaries greeted the Foundation's aid team and the assistance holding up placards praising the humanitarian role the UAE plays in Lebanon and around the world.
The Foundation says that its latest distribution of aid in Lebanon is part of a plan to assist 20,000 refugee and affected families, or 100,000 people, in the country.
