The First Irbid International Engineering Conferences kicked off Tuesday, organized by the Jordan Engineers Association (JEA), the Irbid branch of the Mechanical Engineering Division.
The three-day conference was opened by Minister of Public Works and Housing Sami Halaseh, who was speaking on behalf of Prime Minster Abdullah Ensour.
The meeting was held in cooperation with Jordan University of Science and Technology under the theme "The City: Technological Revolution and Challenges".
The minister said that the number of engineers registered at JEA had reached 116,000, while there were 1,200 engineering offices, 2,220 classified contractors, and 220 investing companies.
The conference sessions will include a discussion on peer-reviewed research papers that cover a broad range of scientific and technological fields and their impacts on society.
Participants of the meeting will discuss topics on renewable and alternative energy, traffic and transportation planning, communications and its applications, historical architecture in a technological future world, water resources and the environment, as well as nanotechnology and metallurgy.
