Cairo - MENA
Ahmed el-Wakil, chairman of the Federation of Egyptian Chambers of Commerce, rejected a request by the Ministry of Manpower to legalize the status of the so-called "independent syndicates".
In statements Tuesday, he said such legalization would weaken the labor movement and create a state of confusion among workers.
He pointed out that law no. 12 for the year 2003 has not been amended yet and that it is difficult to establish new independent syndicates now.
