Cairo - APS
Foreign Minister Ramtane Lamamra announced Sunday in Cairo the granting by Algeria of supplementary financial aid of $25 million in support of the reconstruction efforts of Gaza, devastated by 50 days of Israeli military aggression (July 8-August 26).
In an address at the International Conference for Gaza Reconstruction, held in Cairo, Lamamra reaffirmed “Algeria’s support the efforts for Gaza reconstruction, through a financial aid of $25 million decided by President of the Republic, Abdelaziz Bouteflika, bringing the Algerian overall aid to the Palestinians since the last Israeli attacks to up to $61.4 million."
The Algerian minister said that the "spirit of solidarity with the causes of liberation enshrined in the Algerian people’s collective conscience encouraged the various categories of the society to support our brothers in Gaza as soon as the attacks started and to contribute to the efforts aiming at alleviating their sufferings."
Lamamra recalled the urgent aid granted by the Algerians in solidarity with their Palestinian brothers in Gaza, notable the urgent financial aid worth $24.6 million decided by President of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika on August 11.
He added that the "caravans of humanitarian aid have transported more than 75 tons of food and medical equipment, valued at nearly $ 10 million to Gaza at the end of last month, bringing the total value of humanitarian aid to nearly 36.4 million dollars. "
Lamamra has also announced that within the days to come, "further caravans of humanitarian aids, of a value of $12 million provided by Algerian charity associations are expected in Gaza, plus the multidisciplinary medical teams which arrived Saturday in Gaza to conduct surgeries in the Algerian specialized hospital in Gaza.
The minister said in his speech that "this international interest for the reconstruction of Gaza and humanitarian aid to the Palestinians should not overshadow the dangerous impasse faced by the peace process,"
This is why, the minister said, "we renew Algeria’s firm position which states that the only solution to the Palestinians’ sufferings lies in the historical, political, legal and moral responsibility of the international community to impose a final just solution allowing to the Palestinian people to recover their legitimate rights, i.e. the establishment of an Independent State with Al-Quds as capital, in compliance with the international legality."
