Three Al-Jazeera journalists imprisoned in Egypt for aiding the blacklisted Muslim Brotherhood will remain in custody pending their retrial, a defence lawyer said Thursday.
Australian Peter Greste, Egyptian-Canadian Mohamed Fahmy and Egyptian Baher Mohamed of the broadcaster's English service were detained in December 2013 in a case that triggered global outrage.
"Their release on bail can only be ordered by the court that will hold their retrial," said Greste's defence lawyer Amr Al-Deeb, after Egypt's top court ordered the new hearings.
