The Secretary-General of the Sheikh Zayed Book Award, Dr. Ali bin Tamim, has paid a glowing tribute to the translator and writer, Dr. Dennis Johnson Davis, the winner of the 2007 Cultural Personality of the Year Award, who passed away at the age of 95.
The Zayed Award offered the condolences to the family of the deceased, stressing that "the literary legacy Davis left behind will remain alive for generations."
The late won the Cultural Personality of the Year Award in the 2006-2007 edition in recognition to his contribution to enriching the Arab culture with his original translations from modern Arabic literature into English since the mid 1950s, and for his role in introducing the Arabic literature classics to the academic and scientific circles in the West.
He had also published over 40 books, inspired by the masterpieces of Arabic literature. These book provide a model for authentic values, tolerance and cultural coexistence among peoples.
