Cairo - Arab Today
Organised and hosted by Medrar - an eight-year-old platform for contemporary artists - this show will bring together daring contemporary artists who are not in the habit of conforming to traditional visual art practice.
"This exhibition seeks to encourage works of high contemporary and creative quality, and that abandon the traditional practices taught by the Academy of Arts, through providing a space for experimentation, research and the production of works in various mediums," reads the Medrar press release.
Roznama 3 is only open to young Egyptian artists; the submission guidelines dictate that applying artists may not exceed 30 years of age at the time of Roznama's opening date in October 2014. Artists may not submit more than one artwork, and it should not be produced before 2013. For more details about the submission guidelines and process, click here.
The first prize winner will be awarded a cash prize of $1000. The second place award will be the opportunity to be showcased in a solo exhibition at Medrar.
Since 2005, Medrar has hosted festivals and workshops, provided a collaborative space for a growing movement of media artists, and disseminated audio-visual material documenting the local contemporary art scene, through its three core projects: the video festival, Open Lab Egypt, Medrar TV. Visual art exhibitions are often held by Medrar, showcasing artists that transcend the realms of classic art and lean towards contemporary art forms.
