With the rise of Oman's public transport system, the number of registrations for new taxis has started falling in Oman.
Registration of taxis fell to 99 vehicles until the end of March 2017, a decline of 33.1 per cent against the same period in 2016.
In 2016, 96 new taxis were registered in the first two months of the year, a fall of 37.5 percent, according to National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).
Altogether 598 new taxis were registered in 2016.
The number of new private vehicles, including those imported and registered temporarily, from the beginning of the year to end of March stood at 13,751, a fall of 23.4 per cent against the same period last year. The number of new commercial vehicles for the same period stood at 3,596, a decrease of 38.4 per cent against the same period in 2016.
Overall, the number of vehicles in the Sultanate stood at 1,387,139 at end of March, including 18,797 vehicles registered from January to end of March 2017, according to statistics from National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).
